Afghanistan

Animal Bank (Microcredit)

Project Background:
The people of Joloucha, and in neighboring villages, suffered a lot during the three decades of war, losing all of their income sources and cattle, and were left without any alternative but to emigrate to neighboring countries such as Pakistan and Iran. Upon their return to Afghanistan 25 years later, they found themselves in a land that had been torn apart by war and droughts. With no source of income, one of the many problems they faced was of how to nourish their children in a place with a milk shortage.

Project Description:
In order to support the poorest of families in Joloucha, HOPE started an animal banking program in which credit is provided to selected families so that they can buy livestock in local markets.

The friendly conditions of the program, such as the possibility of a flexible repayment schedule, repayment in Afghan currency, and a zero interest rate, make it a very easy-to-use service for the families who need it.
