Cambodia

Project 1:

This is a multi-purpose project taking place in Pursat Province which involves building water wells, providing health education, and promoting self-help groups and also microcredit.

Project Background:
The Pursat Province in Cambodia is one of the poorer and less developed provinces with recent estimates showing that 45.8% of its residents live below the poverty line. The lack of access to safe water gives people no choice but to consume contaminated water, resulting in the spread of diseases such as cholera, typhoid, dysentery, hepatitis, and polio.

Project Description:
HOPE began the provision of water wells to provide safe water and accompanied this with health and sanitation education. In response to the needs of the local community, HOPE has also added a microcredit component to this project that consists of an in-kind credit system in the form of a cow or buffalo bank and self-help group cash loans.

Project Objectives:
  1. To provide education in health and sanitation education
  2. To increase access to cleaner water
  3. To promote self-help groups
  4. To provide a cow or buffalo bank

    (500 families)

  • Credit (cash loans for 160 families)
