A message from Lowell Sheppard

Dear HOPE Supporter,

With sorrow in our hearts for the tragedy that struck Haiti earlier this week we wanted to start this message asking you once again for your unconditional support. It’s thanks to that support that people in developing countries are able to change their lives, and in moments like this, of desperation and need, though we can’t change the unfortunate events that changed the life of thousands of Haitians we can surely offer our help to alleviate their pain. As we look back to the accomplishments of 2009 let’s keep in mind the challenges we have to face in 2010.

2009 was a year of accomplishments, commitment and hard work for HOPE with constant efforts to fulfill our three main objectives: the ongoing community development work and educational support in developing countries, the spread of awareness among our society and the various fundraising activities for our overseas projects.

2009 saw all of these constant efforts of HOPE reflected on its projects around the world:
  • Clean water and sanitation projects in Ethiopia and Cambodia with the installation of wells and water protection systems.
  • Microcredit programs in a war affected area in Afghanistan and for income generating activities in rural areas in Cambodia.
  • Organic farming education programs in Laos as part of a community development program.
  • Emergency relief project for internally displaced people in Sri Lanka.
  • Vocational training for families in India, the support of children education in the Philippines and a construction of a school in Cambodia.
2009 was also a clear testimony of the ongoing work of HOPE among our community in Japan. Throughout the year and with a variety of activities such as the UNION trip to Cambodia, HOPE Global Challenges, the launch of our auction site and the countless fundraising events HOPE was able to reach out to the community and plant seeds that we hope will grow to spread awareness. We want to take this opportunity to once again thank all of you who made that possible; we couldn’t have done it without your committed efforts.

2010 will be for HOPE another year of tireless dedication to those in need. The unfortunate events in Haiti have brought tragedy into the lives of thousands of people. HOPE is making every possible effort to respond to the calls for urgent need and trying to alleviate the pain of those who lost everything. 2010 will be another year of challenges and we must be ready to face them. Let’s make this year another year of tireless dedication and commitment. Let’s start with an immediate response to Haitians who need us help more than ever and let’s continue our work in developing countries helping those in need and in search for a life changing opportunity.

Thanks for caring about the poor and doing something about it.

Lowell
