2011 HOPE (UNION) Trip to the Philippines

HOPE Japan's UNION trip for 2011 is planned for August in the area of Mindoro, in the Philippines. UNION stands for Understanding Needs In Other Nations and, just like its name, this trip will provide an opportunity for participants to see first-hand how issues of poverty are being dealt with in the developing world, and how we can be a part of helping people out of poverty. Union can also be described as a Study Tour.
 
The team will spend a week in Mindoro helping with projects in conjunction with our partner in the Philippines, Assisi Development Foundation. Assisi, who often works with indigenous peoples supports projects for clean water and sustainable development in the area of Mindoro. The HOPE UNION team will have the experience to work along side these tribal communities in the coffee fields and in bringing clean water to the community school. Friendships will be forged as UNION team members get an idea of how they can partner with the world's poor to make a difference.

Dates: August 3 -10, 2011
Capacity: 12 participants (minimum 6 participants required)
Deadline: Thursday, June 30
 
Schedule(Meeting/Departure points: Manila)
August 3rd Arrive in Manila. Dinner at AdvoCafe
  4th Museums in Manila. Depart for Mindoro
  5th to 8th Work on location in Mindoro
  9th Trip to Puerto Galera Beach
  10th Travel back to Manila/Nagoya
 
 

Costs

Participation Fees:

The participation fee is 50,000 yen.
This fee is to cover all in-country costs including: 
food, accommodation, Internal Flights and travel, management fee
 

Plus:

  • International flights and travel insurance, estimated at 100,000 yen, can be booked through the HOPE-JP office. Participants are welcome to arrange their own travel if they want to go early or stay late, but must be commit to being at the rendezvous point in Manila at the prescribed time.
  • The JPY 50,000 fundraising target per person will go to cover materials and building costs for the water system.  Fundraising is an important part of this project.  We encourage all participants to actively share the message and seek donations.  We can provide fundraising tips to help you, however you may also choose just to pay the project fee on your own.
